Consulting with Canadians

Consultation Process

The Task Force’s consultation process has come to a close. We would like to thank all those who participated.

Launch of Consultations

Following the launch of our Consultation Document on February 22, 2010, the Task Force embarked on a very ambitious 12-week public consultation.

Public Sessions

Members of the Task Force travelled to every province and territory, visiting 14 communities across Canada, and met face-to-face with 175 individuals and organizations.

By the close of our consultation period at the end of May 2010, we had received more than 300 submissions, and an additional 280 comments from Canadians through our online forum.

Written Submissions

Written submissions to the Task Force have now been posted online and can be viewed here.

Next Steps

As we examine the wealth of statistics, information, research and comments that Canadians have provided us, we are discussing what we heard and will soon begin to develop our recommendations to the Minister of Finance.

We have now posted all the submissions we received (while of course respecting the wishes of anyone who asked us to withhold their information from publication).

By early fall, we hope to have posted the remainder of the input from Canadians that we received in our consultations, including:

  • a document summarizing all the input we received; and
  • all the comments posted in our Online Forum.

This public archive, reflecting the views, values and concerns of Canadians, will also serve as a standing reference guide for our Task Force as we formulate our final recommendations through the autumn.

We invite all those who wish to be kept informed of our progress, including the publication of this record of the consultations, to sign up for our Email Newsflash.

We will provide our final report to the Minister, as scheduled, by the end of 2010.
